چکیده

ABSTRACT In this work, we search for negative superhumps (nSHs) in poorly studied cataclysmic variables using Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite data. We find three eclipsing binaries with nSH signatures: HBHA 4204−09, Gaia DR3 5931071148325476992, and SDSS J090113.51+144704.6. The last one exhibits IW And-like behaviour archival Zwicky Transient Facility data, appears to have shallow, grazing eclipses. addition, detect signatures two non-eclipsing systems: KQ Mon 4684361817175293440, by identifying the orbital period from superorbital-dependent irradiation of secondary. discover more system, [PK2008] HalphaJ103959, an another work. An improved mass ratio–nSH deficit relation q(ε−) is suggested us, which agrees independent measurements on nova-like variables. With relation, estimate ratios all systems our sample, determine inclinations that are eclipsing. All discovered nSHs work excellent targets follow-up spectroscopic studies.

Tilted accretion discs in cataclysmic variables : Tidal instabilities and superhumps

We investigate the growth of tidal instabilities in accretion discs in a binary star potential, using three dimensional numerical simulations. As expected from analytic work, the disc is prone to an eccentric instability provided that it is large enough to extend to the 3:1 resonance. The eccentric disc leads to positive superhumps in the light curve. It has been proposed that negative superhum...

Cataclysmic variables

Cataclysmic variables are binary stars in which a relatively normal star is transferring mass to its compact companion. This interaction gives rise to a rich range of behaviour, of which the most noticeable are the outbursts that give the class its name. Novae belong to the class, as do the less well known dwarf novae and magnetic systems. Novae draw their energy from nuclear reactions, while d...

Rapid Oscillations in Cataclysmic Variables

I give an overview of the rich phenomenology of dwarf nova oscillations (DNOs) and Quasi-periodic Oscillations (QPOs) observed in cataclysmic variable stars (CVs). The favoured interpretation of these rapid brightness modulations (3 – >1000 s time scales) is that they are magnetic in nature – magnetically channelled accretion from the inner accretion disc for DNOs and possible magnetically exci...

The Periods of Cataclysmic Variables

The present status of the period studies of cataclysmic variables is briefly reviewed, mainly from the observational point of view. A few comments on individual objects include EM Cyg, Z Cha, WZ Sge and AM CVn.
